Sciatic Nerve Pinch

When you have a sciatic nerve pinch you will feel it. It will be in the form of sharp, radiating pain that you can feel down the back of your buttock, hamstring, and down into the lower leg. For it to be true sciatica it will have to go all the way down to the back of the foot or into the calf region. One of the biggest culprits of this pain is a ruptured or herniated disc at the L4 L5 Level or the L5 SI Spinal Level. What happens is when the disc material pushes out it not only pushes on the nerve roots, but it causes the piriformis muscle to spasm and many of the other smaller inner muscles to tense up. The inflammatory chemicals are released and the pain can really hurt. This combined causes the nerve to be pinched and causes the pain to not only be local, but for it to be felt in the back of the leg.

Patient’s that have this condition often reach for the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication in hopes to reduce the levels of pain. This is a short-term solution that can reduce the pain levels. The problem however is structural so a structural treatment should be used to un-pinch the sciatic nerve. This is going to require a complete history, physical exam, and diagnosis from a Doctor, Specialist, or Therapist. For a majority of patients it is a lumbar disc rupture, bulge, or herniation, and a treatment plan on a spinal decompression machine would work great to heal the injured area. There are quite a few tables that work, the DRX9000, DTS therapy, VAX-D, Accu Spina, these machines work to pull the disc off of the nerve root and let the whole area calm down and return to it’s normal function. You will want to follow the instructions and treatment plan that is given to you if this is what you need. It typically only takes a few weeks to get the disc healed and patient’s back to living their normal life.
