Back Lumbar Pain

The low back is a place where injuries happen and where lumbar pain originates. The vertebra have discs in between them and a spinal cord behind. The nervous system is protected in the lumbar spine by the structures that are around it. Anything that causes damage to these structures can and will cause pain.

Before starting any type of treatment program it is wise advice to go to a Doctor and get a physical exam and diagnosis. Many conditions can exist. The severity can vary from person to person and without what knowing what the cause you could end up losing a lot of time and energy without fixing the cause.

The use of non-steroidal inflammatory drugs (Nsaids) is common for those with low back pain. The brain cannot perceive the pain and this can give a person relief. This is usually a short-term solution that does not work to repair or heal the injured tissues. Some people turn to epidural steroid injections, which target the facet joints. There are limits to the amount that a patient can receive and this is because of the cortisone. Spine surgery is an option for those who have tried all other methods and are still in the same place.

There are many alternative modalities that Doctors and Therapists use to relieve the symptoms. Non-surgical spinal decompression works to take pressure off spinal nerves and improve overall lumbar function. With this treatment people have many exercises to go along with it. The multifidus muscle can be weak and actually have adipose tissue in it. This can be strengthened over time. Working the core lumbar muscles is a must with any low back pain treatment, plan, or program. It is critical that you follow the instructions and make sure that whatever you are doing works to help heal the damaged structures causing the problem.
